Pest Management Strategy

Regional Pest Management Strategy

The pest management strategy provides the framework for managing defined pests in the region. It was made operative on 19 December 2006 following the review of the existing Regional Plant Pest and Animal Pest Management Strategy in accordance with the Biosecurity Act 1993, and has effect over the Hawke’s Bay region.

The purpose of the Strategy is to provide for the effective management of pests in the region, in order to:

  • Eradicate certain pests;
  • Control the spread of some established pests;
  • Minimise the adverse and unintended effects of the pests;
  • Monitor the presence of pests in the region; and
  • Facilitate efficient pest control through a regionally coordinated approach.
