Regional Coastal Plan

Regional Coastal Plan - Operative June 1999

This focus of this plan is the sustainable management of the natural and physical resources within the Coastal Marine Area. The Coastal Marine Area extends from Mean High Water Springs to twelve nautical miles. The Plan was made operative in June 1999.

Apart from every day recreational activities, a number of activities in the coastal marine area are restricted by the Resource Management Act and may require a coastal permit from the Council. The restrictions in place for the Hawke’s Bay coastal marine area are outlined in Chapters 5 to 12 of this Plan and people planning an activity should check to find out if it is permitted, regulated in some way or prohibited. As a rule of thumb the coastal marine area is the sea, the air, the seabed and the foreshore which is that part of the beach that is covered and uncovered by the tide.
