Hawke's Bay has gained an enviable reputation for a temperate climate and quality lifestyle, but underpinning the success of our region is a strong, diverse and progressive workforce from primary industry to professional services.
The Hawke's Bay Regional Council supports local businesses by protecting our local environment for future generations and promoting resilient and sustainable business practices.

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council understands that to be successful in business, you need to make a profit. If you’re reading this page, you’re probably also wanting to do your bit to look after the environment. Lots of businesses manage to do both, in fact, you’ve probably heard of the “Triple Bottom Line” approach. This refers to businesses looking after profit, people and the planet, and can actually help your business run more efficiently as well as more sustainably.
We’d like to help businesses increase their sustainability – you might be surprised how easy it is and how it could actually save you money. Contact the Environmental Education Coordinator on 06 833 8085 or email for help.

The Ministry for the Environment also has some great resources and ideas for businesses of any size.
Hawke's Bay Regional Council would like to help your business prevent stormwater pollution. The Your Choice project is a new initiative that guides business through a stormwater education and protection programme for their site. The programme is based around 5 best practice standards (the “Top 5”):
- Stormwater management plan
- Labelling of Stormwater Drains
- Education/training of staff
- Spill kits
- Spill plans
|
 |
The project is being introduced on a catchment basis, so there are currently limited opportunities for participation in the full programme, but we are able to provide some resources to other businesses that are interested. Click on the these links for printable copies of our Spill Containment Poster, Stormwater Awareness (Would You...?) Poster and Spill Call Sheets. There's also an Environment Topic on Stormwater for Trade and Industrial sites that has some great hints and a handy checklist to help you conduct your own site audit.
For further information on the Your Choice programme, hard copies of the resources or to borrow a stormwater drain stencil, contact the Environmental Education Coordinator on 06 833 8085 or email.

Green Drinks is an international series of informal networking events for people interested in sustainable practices, and local events are held regularly in Hawke's Bay.
