Regional Landcare Scheme
The Regional Landcare Scheme provides financial assistance to Hawke's Bay landholders to control soil erosion and land degradation and to develop more sustainable landuse systems. Types of projects supported by the Scheme include:
- Land erosion controls
- Erosion control forestry - changing landuse
- Land retirement for erosion control
- Educational projects directed at sustainable land use
Farm Plans
Land Management staff work with farmers to develop farm plans and erosion control plans and staff are available for advice. For more information contact your Land Management Officer.

Hawke's Bay Regional Council is a sponsor of LandWISE Incorporated. LandWISE co-ordinate on-farm research and development, primarily in the vegetable and arable cropping industries. A priority has been improving irrigation efficiency and enhancing soil quality.

SHMAK (stream health monitoring assessment kit)
Produced by NIWA and Federated Farmers, this kit and manual enables farmers to measure stream health and identify macroinvertebrates. SHMAK can be purchased from NIWA Instrument Systems, Christchurch (03) 343-7888 or are available on loan from Hawke's Bay Regional Council by contacting Environmental Education.
