Despite rain through the region boosting flows in some rivers, irrigation bans have been put back on two Hawke’s Bay rivers, effective midnight tonight.
Water takes linked to the Whanawhana monitoring site on the Ngaruroro River are again under ban. This site was initially banned in early December and has been lifted twice, most recently on 6 March after rain lifted flows and may have given consent holders an opportunity to refill irrigation dams.
The Waipawa River is under a ban for water take consents linked to the 4000 litre/sec and 3400 L/s flows. Takes linked to the lower flow are permitted.
Other bans remain on a number of streams on the Heretaunga Plains – Karewarewa, Poukawa, Irongate, Karamu, Porangahau and Papanui.
