Ngaruroro River flows are dropping steadily again, prompting Hawke's Bay Regional Council to place a ban on some irrigation water takes from the river.
Irrigation water takes linked to the 2800 litres / second minimum flow at the Fernhill monitoring site will be banned from midnight tonight.
These water takes have remained on a warning since the last ban was lifted earlier this month (6 March).
Bans are still in place on irrigation takes linked to the Whanawhana monitoring site and to the higher 5000 ltr/sec flow at Fernhill.
There has been practically no rain in the catchment in the last week and none is forecast for the next few days.
Bans are in force on parts of the Ngaruroro and Waipawa Rivers (down to the 3400 litre/sec flow limit) plus the Irongate, Karamu, Karewarewa, Papanui, Porangahau, and Poukawa Streams.
A number of other rivers and streams remain on warning status.
