Hawke's Bay Regional Council is 20 years old this week - on 8 November 1989 the inaugural meeting of Hawke's Bay Council was held. Regional Councils were formed in the largest restructuring of Councils since the 1876 abolition of provincial governments, and in 1991 they took on the responsibility of putting the Resource Management Act into action.
