Irrigation Bans Due To Dry Autumn
Irrigation bans are coming back on in Hawke’s Bay. There has been some rainfall in the last week from the Esk catchment north, but further south there has been very little.
Hawke's Bay Regional Council has placed a further irrigation ban on the Ngaruroro River which had a flow of 2687 litres/ sec on Tuesday. Irrigation takes with a 2800 l/sec limit linked to the Ngaruroro -Fernhill site will be banned again from today (Friday). Takes at the higher 5000 l/s limit were banned last week.
The Waipawa River is dropping again and was gauged on Wednesday at 2609 litres/sec. Takes at the 4000 l/s and 3400l/s limits were banned last week, and a ban will also come on takes with a 3000l/s limit from today.
Regional Council staff will gauge the Karamu and Maraetotara Streams again today as these streams are also approaching their low flow limits.
The warning status has been lifted from the Kauhauroa Stream in the Wairoa catchment as flows are returning to normal.

Ngaruroro River - Whanawhana, Ngaruroro - Fernhill (5000 l/s& 2800 l/s), Karewarewa Stream, Irongate Stream, Te Waikaha Stream, Puhokio Stream, Waipawa River - SH2 (4000 l/s, 3400 l/s, and 30009l/s), Papanui Stream.
Current warnings
Ngaruroro River - Fernhill (2400l/s), Maraekakaho Stream, Poukawa Stream, Louisa Stream, Raupere Stream, Karamu Stream, Maraetotara River, Tukipo River, Waipawa River, (2300l/s), Tukituki at Tapairu Road.
