The last irrigation bans on two Hawke’s Bay streams were lifted on Monday 6 July, after a dry summer and autumn.
Bans on the Poukawa Stream (Douglas Rd monitoring site) and Karewarewa Stream (Pakipaki & Turamoe Rd monitoring sites) were lifted today as flows are sufficiently high.
Poukawa was first placed on an irrigation ban in 27 November 2008 which was lifted on 26 March after rains. It was then back on ban on 7 May when it was getting dry again around the region.
The ban on the Karewarewa Stream was placed on 24 November 2008 and it is usually the first to be put under irrigation bans and the last to be lifted.
