Submissions on the proposed changes to the air quality rules are being heard at Hawke’s Bay Regional Council this week.
The hearing started on Monday at the Regional Council Chamber in Napier and will finish on Wednesday.
The Council received 195 submissions on the proposed air plan rule changes, and 23 further submissions were received on these.
This has been a well-discussed issue in Hastings and Napier, as the proposed new rules aim to achieve a significant reduction in smoke emissions from household fires, the chief cause of air pollution over the cities during winter.
The Council’s hearings panel is considering all the submissions and this week is hearing 23 verbal submitters this week from a range of people including residents, wood burner manufacturers and councils.
The submissions cover a range of aspects from wood burner emissions and home heating restrictions to orchard burning.
Councillors will consider all the public submissions before making their decisions on what shape the new rules on air quality will take. |
