Sir Peter Blake Youth Environment Students

Four Hawke’s Bay secondary students have been chosen to represent the region at this year’s Sir Peter Blake event in Wellington.

Laura Rolls from Napier Girls High, Benjamin Roberts from Havelock North High, Bridget Hunt from Central Hawke’s Bay College, and Sarah TeAho from St Joseph’s Maori Girls College were selected from 12 Hawke’s Bay students who applied.

They were required to write about an environmental issue of concern to them, how they could personally make a change and how they were involved in their school and community. All of these students are involved in the environmental groups at their schools.

The Sir Peter Blake Youth Environment Forum is held annually and 40 young people (15-18years) will travel from all around New Zealand to take part in workshops and activities, concluding with a presentation of their projects to invited guests at Parliament Building’s Grand Hall.

This forum is student driven, hands on and is designed to inspire and build the capability of young environmental leaders.

Laura, Benjamin, Bridget and Sarah will be involved in projects that focus on important environmental issues such as fresh water, energy emissions and managing waste.

When they return to Hawke’s Bay the students have agreed to each do a presentation of their experiences within their school community.

Photo – Youth Forum delegates – It may look like just a glass of water, but water is a current and critical national issue that Benjamin Roberts (Havelock North High), Bridget Hunt (Central Hawke’s Bay College), Sarah TeAho (St Joseph’s Maori Girls College) and Laura Rolls (Napier Girls High) will be discussing in Wellington at the Sir Peter Blake Youth Environment Forum later this month.
