Hawke’s Bay Regional Council will be surveying groundwater wells in the Ruataniwha basin from 20 April to help gain more information on the groundwater resource.
This piezometric survey will measure the depth to the aquifer water in approximately 100 wells across the basin. The Council will use this data to produce a map of depths to groundwater which will also be used to help identify the directions of groundwater flow.
The survey is set to start on April 20 and will be done over two to three days. It will cover the areas bordered by Otawhao Road and Takapau-Ormondville Road in the south to Gwavas Road in the north of the Ruataniwha Plains.
“If you have a well on your property in this area and would be willing to have staff on your property to do the survey, we’d appreciate you contacting us,” says Matt Dodson, Regional Council’s groundwater resource analyst.
“Typically it takes less than ten minutes to gather the relevant information from any one well.”
Regional Council staff will be contacting landowners directly to ask for access for the survey, but may not be able to get hold of everyone they need.
Groundwater well owners who are willing to be part of this survey can contact Matt Dodson at the Regional Council on 0800 108 838 (freephone), ask for Matt on extension 8079. |
