Proposal overview:
Variation 1 concurrently removes and reintroduces the rivermouth hazard areas as part of Coastal Hazard Zone 1 (CHZ1) in the Proposed Regional Coastal Environment Plan. Each of the rivermouth hazard areas that are being deleted from CHZ1 is being reinstated into CHZ1. Rules applicable within CHZ1 are not proposed to be amended.
Variation 1 is being undertaken to address a perceived deficiency in the manner in which CHZ1 was amended by Decisions made in July 2008 on the RCEP to include the river mouth hazard areas. The Variation will provide a clear opportunity for potentially affected landowners to submit and debate the technical reasons for the rivermouth hazard area on their properties.
