Draft Dams Policy

The Building Act 2004 introduced a new dam safety regime for existing dams, for which the Regional Councils are responsible for administering. This new regime includes the classification of dams into low, medium or high potential impact categories; and a monitoring programme (dam safety assurance programme) for medium and high impact dams.

The period within which submissions on the proposal may be made to Council will extend from Saturday, 29 July 2006 to 4:00pm Thursday, 31 August 2006.

Any person who makes a submission on the proposal will be provided with written notice acknowledging receipt of that person’s submission and will be able to verbally present their submission to the Council at its meeting on Wednesday, 13 September 2006.

If you have any further queries please contact Helen Codlin.
