The aim of the Regional Landcare Scheme is to
- promote sustainable land use practices in Hawke’s Bay
- protect and enhance areas of “at risk biodiversity” within the region.
The Regional Landcare Scheme has six categories to help Hawke’s Bay landowners and the community to develop more sustainable land use systems and to protect areas of biodiversity that meet the scheme’s criteria.
The Scheme supports good soil conservation practices to control soil erosion and land degradation, biodiversity protection, riparian protection, wetland protection and enhancement, dune protection and applied research.
A Land Management Officer is allocated to each project, and is available for advice. Staff undertake inspections of all projects at least twice a year, one of which is at the conclusion of the project.
The Regional Council publishes a series of Environment Topics which may be helpful in planning your project. Call your Land Management Officer (LMO) for a list.
The scheme does not apply to:
- Landscape or aesthetic enhancement
- Properties less than six hectares in size.
