Soil Properties

Parent material Water deposit (alluvium) from greywacke (the most recent in 1897) mixed with some older ashes on "red metal" (Ohakea) greywacke stones
Characteristic site and soil features Young flood plain of Ngaruroro river in the Ngatarawa area with sandy loam over greywacke stones. Now prevented from flooding by stop bank to the south of Roy's Hill
