Urban Possum Control - Havelock North Stage 2

Havelock North Control Stage 2

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council will be working with the Hasting District Council on a possum control operation around Havelock North from February to June 2011. The goal is to reduce possum numbers to a low level.

The second control stage in Havelock North is the area bordered by Middle Road and Iona Road (see map). A similar programme was conducted around the eastern outskirts of Havelock North (stage one) in February 2010.

Damage to flora and fauna and the threat of damage to boutique industries (olives, grapes etc) around the village has led the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council to focus its second urban possum control programme in Havelock North.

This programme works alongside the rural Possum Control Area (PCA) programmes on the southern edge of Havelock North.

Read the notice provided to landowners in the target area (October 2010) about the operation; press advertising and newsletters have kept residents up to date with progress on the programme.
