Pakipaki Control
Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is carrying out possum control over the semi-rural area from the southern edge of Hastings and on the western side of Havelock North from Middle road across to Maraekakaho rd, starting in November 2010 and progressing through to May 2011.
This operation is one of the Council’s HUB programmes to increase urban biodiversity and improve lifestyles in the cities and semi rural space. It will have a benefit for Hastings and Havelock North as the reduction of possums will result in increased native birdlife and tree health over a wider area.
The focus will be on reducing possums to a low level throughout the target area, especially in the gullies, orchards, reserves, and areas with well established trees.
Council is working with Hastings District Council to support their staff with control work in their parks and reserves.
Read the notice provided to landowners in the target area (November 2010) about the operation; press advertising and newsletters have kept residents up to date with progress on the programme.
