Hawke's Bay Regional Council has identified some of the key issues facing Hawke’s Bay region. These began as 14 draft goals in the booklet – Embracing Futures Thinking and became the basis for council's Ten Year Plan 2009-2019.
Some of the goals are focused on natural resource issues such as water, land use change and climate change. Others are based on how the regional council needs to operate in this fast-changing world.
The 14 draft goals were:
- Sustainability
- Water Futures
- Land Use Change
- Climate Change
- Renewable Energy
- Future Regional Infrastructure
- Open Space
- Economic Development
- Regional Futures Scenarios
- Regional Leadership
- Partnerships with Maori
- Investment
- Operational Activities
- Organisational Competency
Six goals have been the focus of the Councils Ten Year Plan preparation. These are Water Futures, Land Use Change, Climate Change, Future Regional Infrastructure, Regional Leadership and Investment. Partnership with Maori are also a key focus.
The Regional Council reviews current key and emerging issues. This began with the Embracing Futures Thinking programme and includes a regular breakfast speaker series of events that encourages fresh thinking and open discussion.
