Winter 2007 Rainfall

The Region as a whole has received 38% more rainfall this winter than the historical normal. The wettest area has been the Ruahines with over 60% more rainfall than normal.

Despite the very dry summer in Southern Hawkes Bay, for the region as a whole, we have had close to normal rainfall for the period from January to September 2007. Approximately 15% less than we would normally expect. All regions have had slightly less than normal rainfall, with Northern Hawkes Bay, Tongoio and Southern Hawkes Bay areas having 24%, 24% and 18% less rainfall respectively.

There have been some frosty mornings over the last few months, with Ongaonga recording –5.0°C, and more than 30 mornings recording below 0°C. 

Maximum temperatures have been higher than last year in most areas with Bridge Pa recording a maximum temperature of 34.6°C.

So far average air temperatures are on par with 2006, with Bridge Pa having above average air temperature.
