In July-August 2010 the Regional Council consulted the Hawke's Bay public and other interested parties beyond the region on a Draft Strategy for the future health of the upper Mohaka and Taharua rivers.
A summary of public responses and key issues raised can be viewed in the following report:
The Draft Strategy itself is available below:

Public comments on the Draft Strategy were reported in a paper to Council's Environmental Management Committee (Item 8) on 12 October 2011.
The Committee paper also discusses an independent Preliminary Review of Council's process working on Taharua and Upper Mohaka Policy Development (see Attachment 1). The independent review highlights work needed for robust plan change to the Regional Resource Management Plan.
Council staff are working through the issues raised in public feedback and the independent review. A comprehensive programme for completing of a robust statutory plan change is intended to be presented to Councillors in February 2012.
