'Paws at Pakowhai' Event for Dogs

bcv

The popular ‘dog park’ at Pākōwhai Regional Park near Hastings will be the focus for the 'Paws at Pākōwhai' event on Saturday 25 March.

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is hosting the event from 9 – 11am to give regular park users and dog walkers an opportunity to learn about plans to further develop the park, and to provide ideas.

“We’re looking at installing dog agility apparatus to increase the interest in the park for dogs and owners, so one thing we’ll be talking to dog owners about is what they would like to see and where,” says Stevie Smidt, HBRC Open spaces development officer.

A highlight of the event will be the photo competition with the aim of selecting the 'Pākōwhai Pin-Up Pooch', a dog that would be used in promotions for the regional park. LupinBay Photography will be setting up a booth, and dog owners will be able to purchase photos of their pets ($10) with half the proceeds going to the SPCA.

A breakfast sausage sizzle will be available and regional council staff will be on hand to talk about park maintenance and development, plus water quality issues for dogs.  There will also be a talk by Hastings District Council on pet safety and control.

The Deja Brew Coffee Cart will be on duty for purchasing tea, coffee and treats.

Animates Hastings will provide raffles, giveaways and spot prizes that will be run throughout the morning.

“’Paws at Pākōwhai’ will be a fun way for us to chat with regular park users, and check that the regional council’s future park developments are in line with their needs,” says Mr Smidt.
