Bus Fares & Zones

Fares

There are two fare payment options - cash or goBay smartcard.

  • goBay smartcards can be purchased (cash only) from any Go Bus driver for $17 ($7 initial card purchase and $10 pre-loaded travel). They can also be purchased from Hastings Library at $27 with $20 of preloaded travel, and here at the HBRC offices, located at 159 Dalton Street, Napier.
  • goBay smartcards can be topped up (cash only) in any amount of $10 or more ($100 maximum).
  • goBay smartcard fares are approximately 20% cheaper than cash fares.
  • Refunds cannot be given on lost or damaged cards.

Correct fare is appreciated as change may not be available for large denomination notes.

Please check your ticket before moving away from the driver. The driver cannot correct a transaction once another fare has been processed.

*Children under 5 travel free. The child (5-15) fare is extended to students with ID. High School Student ID required for High School students not wearing school uniform. To be eligible for a concession fare passengers must show the driver a valid Community Services card, Tertiary Student / High School Student ID, or SuperGold card. Passengers without one of these forms of ID will be charged an adult fare (this does not apply to children or High School students wearing school uniform).

Zones

Zone Description
Zone 1 Napier, Tamatea, Taradale, Bay View, EIT or Clive is a one-zone trip
Hastings, Havelock North, Flaxmere, EIT or Clive is a one-zone trip.
Zone 2 Napier, Bay View, Tamatea, Taradale (before EIT) to Hastings, Havelock North or Flaxmere is a two-zone trip.
Hastings, Havelock North, Flaxmere to Taradale (after EIT), Tamatea, Bay View or Napier is a two-zone trip.
