We have four regional parks for Hawke’s Bay locals and visitors to use, and invite you to explore the spaces.

Our parks are great places for you to relax, explore, get adventurous and have some fun.

Whether you're looking for a great picnic spot, wanting to stretch your legs, have fun with the family, or checkout some awesome scenery and biodiversity, there is something for everyone.

Our regional parks:

Hawea Historical Park

Hawea Historical Park is a park under development beside the Karamū Stream at the heart of an area rich with cultural value within the Heretaunga Plains. The park has cultural and visual connections with the wider region with views south-east to Te Mata and Kahuranaki and glimpses to the west of Kaweka. Hawea Historical Park will be developed and managed by the Hawea Historical Park Whenua Topu Trust. The trust is an equal partnership between local hapū, Kohupātiki, Matahiwi, Ruahāpia, and Waipatu, and Hawke’s Bay Regional Council who will collectively be responsible for ongoing development and management of the park. The park is planned to open in 2023.

Other parks

We support Te Mata Peak Park Trust with pest control and park and enhancement, and we jointly work with Napier City and Hastings District Councils to make sure Waipatiki Beach Holiday Park is there for families to enjoy.

Regional parks books available

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council has published a series of books on our Regional Parks. These are available for purchase in limited quantities for $20 per book from our Napier office reception, or by using the form below. Copies are also available in public libraries in Hawke’s Bay.

Each book costs $20 and postage is free of charge.

Please pay by internet banking: Account number 02-0700-0302819-000. Please quote reference 362-001 and your surname as appears on the order form.  Alternatively use the order form and pay on collection at reception at our Dalton St, Napier office.
