Hawke's Bay Trails
Hawke’s Bay Trails are one of the twenty two 'Great Rides' of the Nga Haerenga - The New Zealand Cycle Trail. New Zealand’s Great Rides provide exciting journeys on 2,500km of trails, around New Zealand, suited toeveryone from sightseeing rusty riders, to hardcore mountain bikers up for a challenge. ‘Nga Haerenga’ means ‘the journeys’, in a physical and spiritual sense, which is exactly what you will experience on the New Zealand Cycle Trail.
The Hawke's Bay Trails cover nearly 200km of cycling and walking off-road trails, the largest network of easy cycle trails in New Zealand. The Heretaunga Plains are known in Maori lore as ‘Heretaunga Ararau’ or ‘Land of a Hundred Pathways’. Thanks to the hardworking teams of Hawke’s Bay Regional Council, with the vision and support of Napier Rotary Club, Napier City Council and Hastings District Council, ‘Hawke’s Bay Trails’ are the land of hundreds of cycle trails!
The trails link the cities of the region, connecting with the urban ‘iWay’ shared pathways of Hastings and Napier and joining with the coastal and country settlements. Trails meander along the coast, along rivers, connecting wineries and cafes while taking in some stunning scenery of mountains, coastal lookouts, wetlands, orchards and vineyards. These easy trails are great to explore by bicycle or foot any time of year.
