HBRC is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Compliance Team. The purpose of this role is to ensure that Council efficiently and effectively responds to pollution events within the region and delivers appropriate solutions and outcomes that are aligned to relevant regulations. 

The role of Environmental Officer Pollution Response would be suited to someone who is practical with a hands-on approach to getting out in the community and helping to educate the public on environmental compliance. You will have the ability to remain calm under pressure and effectively communicate to others in what can be challenging situations. No day will be the same in this role! The team is inclusive and supportive, plus we are committed to sharing our existing knowledge and upskilling so you can grow in the role and really make it your own.

 

About the Opportunity:

The key objectives of the role are:

  • Appropriately respond to incoming queries and concerns from members of the community regarding possible pollution events
  • Ensure efficient and effective response to complaints, in accordance with response guidelines.
  • Maintain a strong customer focus throughout the entire process of pollution response
  • Engage community members in education around pollution events and environmental compliance
  • Please be aware that there is an after-hours requirement to this role as part of a rotating roster

 About you:

The successful candidate will ideally possess and demonstrate the following competencies:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant industry experience
  • Exceptional communication skills with an ability to listen effectively,
  • Capable of being decisive and assertive when necessary
  • A proactive approach to problem solving
  • An ability to use collaborative work practices to build strong working relationships.
  • Experience in an enforcement environment would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge and experience of conflict resolution an advantage.

 

The salary range for this role will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
