Emergency Management Advisor - Operations (12-month fixed term)

About the opportunity:

The HBRC CDEM group is looking for a positive-minded individual with a background in emergency management or a related field to join our small but high-profile team of emergency management staff. A passion for emergency response work and the community would be beneficial in the role as there is a high degree of collaboration required. We need a subject matter expert for emergency operations with experience in briefing and deploying staff in emergency situations.                                                                                                                          

The role is focused on the incident and tactical level of emergency response, including the functions of risk management, multi-agency deployments, field staff management, and the application of command, control and communication arrangements. You will need to work across a number of diverse organisations to develop a consistent, coordinated, and professional tactical emergency response to civil defence emergencies. You will be able to work across a broad range of partners throughout the Hawke’s Bay region and build close working relationships with local staff, partner organisations and external agencies – especially those who need to manage field staff during emergencies.

As an integral part of the Operational Readiness Team, you will contribute to the development of strategies, plans, and procedures to develop and deliver robust Civil Defence emergency operations in accordance with the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS). The primary focus of the role will be around developing task plans, site safety plans, and deployment procedures for use during an emergency response. This includes building relationships with a wide range of emergency-response based organisations, volunteers, and communities within the Hawke’s Bay. You will be someone with a collaborative approach, preferably with emergency response-based experience, who can build relationships and deliver effective and safe emergency operations to the public. 

About you:

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A recognised tertiary qualification or certificate/diploma (Level 5 or above), or significant experience in a discipline relevant to operational readiness or emergency management.
  • 2-3 years experience in briefing and deploying staff in emergency situations.
  • A positive, can-do attitude, with the flexibility to adjust to the wide and varied demands of a fast-paced work environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills with the ability to tailor your style to a particular audience.

The salary range for this role is between $75,687 to $84,097 and will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
