Urban Catchment Advisor

About the Opportunity:

Our Asset Management Group has an exciting opportunity for 2 Urban Catchment Advisors to lead the development and implementation of catchment management plans for our Karamu and Ahuriri urban catchments. These plans will require effective coordination of a wide range of discharges and issues that are seen in the urban catchment context, specifically in relation to the management of land drainage and stormwater.

The advisors have the overarching goal of guiding positive, proactive change in urban water quality, which can only be achieved by taking a collaborative approach and engaging with key stakeholders. Alongside this, the catchment management plans may have input into statutory planning instruments such as district or new spatial plans and Council Network Management Plans so there is a ‘big picture’, strategic component to the work being undertaken.

About you:

These roles require someone who can take responsibility for researching and developing plans that align with best practice and will actively address the issues seen in our urban waterways. You will be a motivated self-starter with a solution-focused approach and a passion for our environment. An adaptive communication style will be vital in this role, allowing you to build effective relationships and gain active engagement from a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Ideally you will also have:

• A Relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent tertiary qualification in a relevant area such as Environmental Studies or Environmental Engineering
• 5 + years’ experience in a similar role/relevant industry
• Sound understanding of the relevant legislation including: Resource Management Act, Biosecurity Act, Reserves Act, Local Government Act, Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act, Public Works Act
• Previous experience with developing and implementing catchment management plans desirable
• Proven relationship building and facilitation skills

The salary range for this role is between $84,960 to $94,400 dependant on your individual qualifications and experience.
