Hawke's Bay Regional Council (HBRC) is the regional authority for the Hawke's Bay region in New Zealand with key roles in environmental management and education, flood control, drainage, pollution, waste, land, water and coastal management. About the opportunity:

As an Environmental Compliance Officer you will undertake monitoring of environmental resource consents issued by the Regional Council including follow up and reporting. On occasion the role will require you to investigate an offence and prepare documentation for enforcement. The role may include an after-hours on call component. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the environmental issues affecting the Hawke’s Bay region and a proven ability to effectively deal with conflict.

The salary range for suitable candidates that meet the requirements for this role is $69,210 - $78,438 depending on qualifications and experience.

About you:

You will work well in a team, have effective communication skills and an ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Relevant experience in resource management, rural sector and productive land use activities, monitoring or managing projects involving earthworks, installation of structures, drains or culverts and the associated erosion and sediment controls or a related field supported by a science based tertiary qualification and/or previous experience in the enforcement field is desirable. 

  • Understanding of the Resource Management Act.
  • Excellent understanding of earthworks, construction, erosion and sediment control measures for environmental protection.
  • High level of Microsoft office and computer skills.
  • A clean full driver’s license. 
  • Have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
