 About the Opportunity:

The Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is seeking applications for an Engineering Cadet to join a great team of people in our Asset Management group. This role is designed to be a developmental position, where the successful applicant will be able to gain new qualifications while learning practical skills on the job. It is an exciting role for the right individual, opening up future career growth and opportunities. 

The key objectives of the role are:

• Gain knowledge and experience from staff, while assisting with workloads.
• Support the waterway management of Flood Control and Drainage Schemes across Hawkes Bay, including the maintenance programme, pump station renewals, and enhancement.
• Monitor and report any asset management issues on rivers and waterways.
• Support a succession plan for the Regional Assets section.

 The successful candidate will ideally possess and demonstrate the following competencies:

• A desire to study and learn on the job, including working towards a NZ Certificate in Engineering (NZCE Civil) or NZ Diploma in Engineering (Civil) qualification while working.
• Understanding of the issues facing Hawke’s Bay rivers and drainage networks.
• Basic practical knowledge of river geomorphology and flood management.
• Problem solving working knowledge.
• Collaborative work practices to build strong working relationships.

The salary range for this role would depend on qualifications and experience.
