World Oceans Day at Ahuriri

Join us to celebrate our oceans at Ahuriri on World Oceans Day, Saturday 8 June.

Locals can learn about looking after our moana, join in events for tamariki, and help raise awareness of our impact on the sea’s fragile environment.

Jane Gardiner, Coordinator for Our Seas, Our Future Hawke’s Bay, is one of the partners driving the event.

“We’re excited to celebrate World Oceans Day with local Hawke’s Bay people who are passionate about caring for the environment.”

Napier Port, National Aquarium, Coastguard, Department of Conservation, and Hawke’s Bay Regional Council are supporting the event, and will have experts sharing their knowledge of our moana and how to look after it.

The Youth Environment Council from Hawke’s Bay Regional Council will be leading events for tamariki including a treasure hunt and sandcastle building competition.

A programme of activities can be found on Our Seas Our Future Facebook page.

2019 will be the 17th year World Oceans Day has been celebrated across the world, with over 120 countries marking the day.

The celebration of World Oceans Day is on Saturday 8 June, 1pm until 4pm, for families, locals, anyone. Come to Ahuriri beach and remember to bring your buckets and spades, and register on the day for any activities.
