There will be another community planting day this Saturday 13 May by the Clive River, Farndon Road side.

Kohupātiki Marae and Hawke’s Bay Regional Council are hosting the event, which will add 3000 plants to the enhancement project along the Karamū / Clive River that started in 2010 at Kohupātiki Marae.

This weekend’s event will extend native planting to the Farndon Road bend, about 1.5 km upstream from the Clive Bridge.  Although rain is forecast, the planting will go ahead.

“By the end of the planting we’ll see a total of 2.5 km of continuous planting along the river which will become a pretty significant core sanctuary for wildlife,” says Ant Rewcastle, HBRC’s Senior Open Spaces Development Officer.

The event starts at 9.00am until midday when planting efforts will be rewarded with a barbecue.  Volunteers are asked to register on line at www.hbrc.govt.nz, Search #events where there is further information. On Saturday, people can look for signs at the orchard on 165 Farndon Road to find parking and the event marquee.
