In Hawke's Bay you can fish for whitebait between 1 September - 30 October.
The Regional Council issues resource consents for whitebait stands. Each stand owner must comply with all conditions of their resource consent.
Whitebaiting stands can be erected 7 days prior to the start of the season and must be removed within 14 days of the season ending.
The whitebaiting season begins on 1 September and ends on 30 October. You can access your whitebait stand from 25 August, seven days before the season begins.

Please respect our awa. No rubbish dumping, tree felling, or anti-social behaviour is allowed and may result in licenses being revoked.
You can apply for a new whitebait stand using the form below. Your application will be for a stand at one site. Please note, in some areas there are waiting lists which are managed by the Regional Council and delegates.
Current stand holders will receive an invoice a month or so before the season starts. If this invoice isn’t paid before the season starts, the site may be given to another applicant.
