The Regional Council monitors PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations on a continuous basis and the 24 hour averaged concentrations are updated daily from our telemetered air quality sites.
You can view our data on a map or in a table by clicking between the green tabs. Search for the site(s) you are looking for to see current data. For each site you can then access a chart to view historical data by clicking on the site name. You can specify a specific date range and download the data in various formats.
We monitor particulate matter (PM) all year round at our telemetered air quality sites which give us a daily average.
We have four airsheds in Hawke’s Bay; Hastings, Napier, Awatoto and Whirinaki. The Hastings and Napier airsheds are split into two zones, Hastings 1 and Hastings 2 and Napier 1 and Napier 2. Rules for residential woodburners apply to Hastings and Napier 1 airsheds. You can find information about clean heating and our Sustainable Homes programme here. The rules for Hastings and Napier 2 airsheds apply to the wider area, and are focused on outdoor burning. You can find the rules for outdoor burning here.
PM10 and PM2.5 are what our air quality sites measure. PM10 is the PM smaller than 10 microns and PM2.5 is smaller than 2.5 microns. The finer the PM is, the more dangerous to human health. Winter is generally when we see PM measurements increase because of increased burning combined with weather conditions that tend to trap the pollution near ground-level.
The Council monitors PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations on a continuous basis and the 24 hour averaged concentrations are updated daily from our telemetered air quality sites below:
