Long Term PlansNgā mahere whāinga pae tawhiti

The Long Term Plan is our organisation’s plan that sets out our strategic direction and priorities for the next 10 years. We create these plans every three years, and they set out the work we deliver and how we will fund that work.

A Long Term Plan is also considered the Annual Plan for the first year of each three-year cycle. In the other years, we produce Annual Plans separately.

Three-Year Long Term Plan 2024-2027

The Regional Council adopted its Three-Year Long Term Plan 2024-2027 on 10 July 2024. We consulted with our community on this plan from 15 April 2024 to 15 May 2024. A total of 824 public submissions were received. These are available along with a summary of key decisions on our consultation website.

We would normally develop a 10-year long-term plan, as all councils are required under the Local Government Act 2002. Special temporary legislation following Cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023 has changed the planning cycle to three years for the worst affected councils. The legislation also removes the need to have our plan audited, given it is too hard to forecast beyond three years with enough certainty to meet the normal audit requirements.
