Health & Safety

Health and safety is very important to us at HBRC. Depending on the work you're doing for us, we may ask you to go through a pre-qualification process. It's pretty standard - but it's also important.

Health and Safety

We all need to keep safe at work and HBRC take this responsibility seriously. To help us meet our obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 HBRC uses the independent SiteWise pre-qualification process.

This system helps us meet our responsibilities to ensure that contractors who work for, or on Council assets, and/or supplying services, have effective health and safety management systems to prevent harm to people and the environment or damage to property.

What is SiteWise?

SiteWise is a prequalification system that grades a contractor’s health & safety capability and publishes that grade in a database that can be viewed by main contractor’s and principal organisations. This allows for better contractor selection and an easier tendering process for everyone involved.

Will I need to register with SiteWise?

Suppliers of services to Council are required to be SiteWise registered (or equivalent industry standard) and performing to appropriate health and safety standards and practices suited to the work environment (as assessed by external audit).

Contractors who must be registered with SiteWise (or equivalent industry standard) include (but are not limited to) those who will be attending, monitoring or working on construction projects, or involved in providing security and cleaning services. If you are unsure you can contact our procurement team.

We will not consider project tenders for these types of work from companies without SiteWise accreditation (or equivalent industry standard) , or we will ask you become SiteWise registered.

How do I register?

Go on-line to SiteWise and register. You will need to complete a questionnaire on your health and safety plans. The process assesses your practices, awards a grade and suggests possible improvements.
