Essential Freshwater Package – Farmers Guide

The Essential Freshwater package is a new set of standards and regulations designed to achieve genuine freshwater improvements for New Zealand’s lakes, rivers, wetlands and other freshwater waterways within a generation.

The new rules apply to all farmers, in addition to the existing regional rules in the Regional Resource Management Plan. They are being introduced in phases so you can prepare and adapt to them. Take a look at the implementation timeline that shows the dates different regulations come into effect.

Essential Freshwater Regulations

The following topics are covered by the new national rules. Unless otherwise stated under the specific regulation, the suite of Essential Freshwater Regulations regulations are operative and have not been delayed.
