Deputy Harbourmaster

About the Opportunity:

We are looking for a Deputy Harbourmaster to join the team. This role will be based in the Port of Napier office and reports to the HBRC Harbourmaster. About you:

You will have significant knowledge and experience in the maritime and/or shipping industry. You will be a capable individual who can play a leading role in advising and assisting in the management of the Council’s maritime safety and navigation responsibilities. This includes marine oil spill contingency planning and response.

To be successful in role you must have a Certificate of Competency as Master (unlimited) of a Foreign-Going Ship, as you will also act as relief harbourmaster for the Napier Pilotage area, including the Breakwater Harbour managed by the Port of Napier Limited. 

Ideally you will also:

  • Be a self-motivated and reliable team player with the ability to work unsupervised. 
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and must be computer literate.
  • Be able to remain calm in high-pressure situations and effectively communicate to others to achieve positive outcomes.

The annual salary range for this role will be between $97,000 and $105,622 dependant on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
