About the Opportunity:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Environmental Engineer to join the Regional Assets team as part of our Asset Management Group. This Group looks after a diverse portfolio of river and coastal engineering, flood scheme operations and maintenance, and the regional park network across the Hawke’s Bay.

This role will focus on educating the team so they can align their way of working to meet environmental best practices and ensure legislative compliance. You will need to be across the changes in legislation that are coming through and feed this knowledge into the team, developing new processes and procedures for them to adhere to.  A high standard of written and verbal communication will be essential to your success in this role, alongside a positive and constructive attitude and strong teamwork focus.

You will be a subject matter expert who can ensure that ecological, cultural, biodiversity and recreational values have been effectively considered across all the work undertaken by the team, both current and future.

 

Ideally you will also have:

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent tertiary qualification in Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering or other relevant subject.
  • 8 + years experience in a similar role/relevant industry.
  • Sound understanding of the relevant legislation including the Resource Management Act, Biosecurity Act, Reserves Act, Local Government Act, Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act, Public Works Act
  • Previous experience with Environmental Engineering is desirable

 

This is a permanent full-time position.

The salary range for this role will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
