At Hawke’s Bay Regional Council our purpose is to work with our community to protect and manage the region’s precious taonga of rivers, lakes, soils, air, coast and biodiversity for health, wellbeing and connectivity. Our organisation is diverse and our work is varied. Our structure comprises of six key business units; Corporate Services, Integrated Catchment Management, Asset Management, Māori Partnerships, Policy & Regulation, and the Executive Advisory Group which also consists of the Civil Defence and Emergency Management.

 

About the Opportunity:

We are looking for a Team Leader Data Management to lead the Environmental Information Data team. This team is responsible for ensuring the Councils’ environmental data is accurate, quality coded and readily available for use by scientists and public.

The Team Leader Data Management is responsible for a team of eight Analysts and Advisors and will be expected to positively lead the team and offer support, coaching and other professional development opportunities to ensure their work effort meets the requirements of good customer service and efficient and effective service delivery.

 

About you:

You will be a people leader who has experience managing and motivating a team however, you’ll be equally comfortable being knee deep in data and associated plans, strategies and systems along with the people-related activity of employees throughout their journey at HBRC from recruitment, selection, onboarding, and training and ongoing development.

Your ability to effectively gather multiple sources of information and apply technical and analytical skills to make effective decisions will be outstanding along with the ability to ensure high quality outputs of work that are delivered on time, every time.

Ideally you will also have:

  • Familiarity with GIS, databases and relational databases would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of data requirements for New Zealand resource management.
  • A knowledge of data management and resource management systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Visio, Project, PowerPoint and other database and information management systems.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting systems and requirements.
  • A sound understanding of tikanga Māori and Māori values and an appreciation as to how they relate to Regional Council functions and plan and policy development.
