Design Engineer [2 year fixed term]

About the Opportunity:

We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills and a solutions-focused, pro-active approach to their work. You will be self-motivated and enthusiastic, driven to add value and improve services in our region! The position will require you to demonstrate a commitment to health and safety in the workplace, plus take a high level of initiative. Ideally you will have proven experience in leading projects and managing contractors.

The key objectives of the role are:

  • Act as the design lead for the HBRC Regional Asset Level of Service project.
  • Produce concept design and detailed design work for the flood protection assets, mainly stopbanks, culverts.
  • Manage external consultants, general enquires and design work for the Level of Service project.
  • Provide scoping project briefs and be actively involved in managing any design work completed by third parties.

To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Bachelor’s in Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Chartered Professional Engineer is preferable (or in the process)
  • 5-10 years’ experience in engineering aspects of local government, utility, or engineering consultancy organisation. Engineering in natural resources is desirable
  • Sound understanding of the following legislation: Resource Management Act, Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Act, Local Government Act, Reserves Act, Public Works Act.
  • Proficiency in civil design including stormwater, earthworks and roading.
