Senior Ranger

About the Opportunity:

Our Regional Assets team is looking for a Senior Ranger to provide monitoring and reporting of public access to rivers, regional parks, river mouth openings, pathways and gravel operations in the Hawke’s Bay region. The role will report to and work alongside our Operations Manager as part of the wider Asset Management group.

As a senior team member, you will take the lead on the Ranger portfolio of work and take responsibility for the day to day management of our Ranger, ensuring there is the knowledge, tools and resources required to successfully deliver quality outcomes. Alongside this, you will play an important public-facing role that ensures our regional assets are well monitored, maintained and safe for public use. This is a permanent, full-time role. Please note, there will be a requirement to be part of an on-call roster which includes weekends and public holidays.

 

About you:

As a publicly visible figure for HBRC, you will demonstrate great interpersonal skills, have an empathetic and understanding approach while confidently ensuring Council policies and regulations are adhered to. You will have skills in conflict resolution and be able to deescalate situations where undesirable behaviours are present.

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, pro-active and energetic person with an excellent ‘can do’ attitude. Preferably you will also have:

  • Proven experience in a similar public-facing or enforcement/monitoring role.
  • Good knowledge of using risk/threat assessment framework.
  • Proven leadership experience.
  • A solid understanding of the issues associated with Hawke’s Bay rivers and drainage networks.
  • An understanding of community development and how to establish confidence in those communities to effectively promote HBRC’s policies or issues.
  • Sound judgement and initiative

The salary range for this role is between $77,940 to $86,600 and will depend on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Other benefits of working for our team include limited income protection and life insurance, subsidised eye tests and lenses, flu vaccinations, and other well-being initiatives. HBRC also has a strong commitment to developing and upskilling people within a flexible and supportive working environment.
