Stopbanks generic

The Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is pleased to announce today that another area of Central Hawke’s Bay has been moved from Category 2C to Category 1.

This area is east of Otāne, starting around Pourerere Road and Walker Road, following the old bed of the Waipawa River, covering the low-lying area near Te Aute, north of Drumpeel Road, which ultimately connects to Papanui Stream.

Residents  are receiving emails today from Central Hawke’s Bay District Council advising them of the move.

Regional Council Chair Hinewai Ormsby says, “I’m pleased we can release more residential properties in Central Hawke’s Bay to Category 1 status.  I want to acknowledge the collaboration we have had from Central Hawke’s Bay District Council in helkong us reach this new milestone.”

The release to Category 1 means property owners in this area can now make decisions about rebuilding their properties and their lives.

Meanwhile Regional Council staff continue to work to repair any damage to stopbanks and monitor big rain events to ensure there are no ongoing issues.
