Diesel spill in Ahuriri contained and monitored

Hawke's Bay Regional Council, Napier City Council staff and contractors are currently working on containing a diesel spill on Hyderabad Road and Bridge Street, State Highway 50 opposite then Allied Fuel Station.

A number of booms have been placed in the curbing to adsorb the diesel and people are asked to leave them there while the spill is being cleaned up. The run-off from the curbing is entering the inner harbour near the Bluewater Hotel in Ahuriri.

The situation in the inner harbour is being monitored with the focus being on protecting wildlife in the area. The spill on the roading network stretches for some distance on the north bound lane of Bridge Street and Hyderabad Road.

This spill reinforces the importance of monitoring what goes down the drain as this all has an effect on the environment.

If anyone has any information about the spill they should contact the Hawkes Bay Regional Council Pollution Hotline on 0800 108 838.
