Burning Order in Council is finished

Burning photo

We would like to remind landowners that the Order in Council (OIC) which temporarily enabled the burning of some prohibited items is over.

The Regional Council received an OIC under the severe Weather Emergency Recovery Legislation Act 2023 for the burning of cyclone and flood waste on commercial scale horticultural and agricultural properties not located in the Hastings or Napier airsheds.

This temporary law change was in place on 5 July, with burns needing to be completed by Wednesday, 1 November.

If people have questions about this,  please contact Regional Council staff on the pollution hotline 0800 108 838.

As we head into the summer, we encourage people to check whether they can burn at Fire and Emergency New Zealand.
