Hawke’s Bay Regional Council are looking for a Regulatory Compliance Officer to join our Policy & Regulation Group, where you will play a crucial role in responding to pollution events, conducting investigations, and ensuring appropriate enforcement actions. In this position, you will lead compliance efforts, prepare case files for legal proceedings, and collaborate with enforcement teams to deliver strong and effective outcomes. If you have experience in regulatory enforcement, possess strong analytical skills, and can navigate complex investigations, this role could be a great fit for you.
As part of this role, you will be actively involved in environmental protection, investigating pollution events and ensuring appropriate responses are taken. You will conduct compliance investigations, gather evidence, and manage cases with precision, working closely with legal counsel to support enforcement actions. Additionally, you will play a key role in decision-making, engage with individuals and businesses to uphold environmental regulations, and lead compliance initiatives under various laws. You will also be part of the after-hours pollution response roster, ensuring timely action when urgent issues arise.
This role requires a strong background in regulatory compliance and enforcement, ideally within government or law enforcement, along with analytical and investigative skills to assess complex situations. A solid understanding of environmental legislation and compliance processes is essential, as well as the ability to apply enforcement measures professionally and effectively. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be proactive in conflict resolution, and work collaboratively in a team setting.
