Land Scientist (Vacancy 17-853)

Are you ready to further your career in one of New Zealand’s most desirable regions? Do you have a good understanding of land science issues?

If you would enjoy working with some of New Zealand’s best scientists, love the outdoors, a fantastic climate and a relaxed lifestyle then this new position at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is just for you.

You will be part of a high performing team focused on land science issues including erosion/sediment, soil quality, nutrient loss from land, the effects of land and land use change, riparian and wetland monitoring/mapping.  This work, alongside the surface water and ground water science teams, will help provide a better picture of issues facing the region and how to address them, as well as support the policy development and regulatory functions of the Council.

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is a progressive organisation; our science team has a diverse range of highly skilled specialist staff from across the world, with a wealth of experience and expertise.  We are looking for applications from well-qualified and enthusiastic team players.

The position is based in New Zealand’s Art Deco capital, Napier, in the heart of Hawke’s Bay wine country, a region that offers parks, cycle trails, a fascinating coastal environment and some the country’s most impressive rivers, full of trout.

If you want to live in what we think is one of the best regions in the country, you will need a relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science with a strong land focus and a minimum of three years relevant experience. You will also need excellent written and verbal communication skills, be proficient with Microsoft Office, and have the proven ability to use the ArcGIS mapping platform. Certification in the use of the Overseer nutrient management model would also be advantageous.

Applications close at 4 pm on Tuesday 18 April 2017.

You will find the job description here.
