Youth Environment Council bringing important documentary to Napier

Blue the film

Members of the Hawke’s Bay Youth Environment Council (YEC) are really looking forward to the upcoming screening of the environmental documentary ‘Blue’ at the MTG’s Century Theatre in Napier.

The film showcases the consequences of pollution in the world’s oceans and the impact this has on the marine habitat. The YEC feels this is something everyone needs to be aware of.

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council Community Engagement Coordinator Sally Chandler, who helps to facilitate the group with Jake Brookie, says it is the first time a movie night has been organised by the Youth Environment Council.
“This is a free screening and open to all. The theatre can hold 300 people so we would love to get as many along as possible, especially young people,” says Mrs Chandler.

Members of the YEC have been promoting the event in their own schools and through the YEC Facebook page. Anyone wanting to attend can secure a seat via the group’s Facebook page.

The Youth Environment Council is involved with school events, beach clean ups, planting days and advocacy. This year, with the help of Jake Brookie, several members have shared their views on Radio Kidnappers.

“This has been a new and wonderful experience for the students. They have also had combined meetings with both the Napier City and Hastings District Councils’ youth councils. This overlap is a great way to share knowledge, ideas and action.”

‘Blue” will screen at the MTG’s Century Theatre, Napier at 6pm on Thursday 9 August 2018.
