Porangahau Estuary High E.coli Levels

Porangahau Estuary

Hawke’s Bay District Health Board has advised that E.coli 3 times above safe swimming levels has been recorded at Porangahau Estuary.

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council monitors the estuary each Monday as part of its Swim Thru Summer monitoring programme.

Central Hawke’s Bay District Council has put up signs at the boat ramp at the estuary warning people not to swim or fish in the estuary until further notice.  The information has also been posted on the district council, regional council and Porangahau community Facebook pages.

Central Hawke’s Bay District Council and Hawke’s Bay Regional Council are working with the DHB to determine the cause. There have been isolated heavy rainfall events in the district.

Information on swimming water quality is on the regional councils website.
