Trustees are being sought for a new farming initiative aimed at shining a light on Hawke’s Bay’s agricultural expertise and leading on-farm research and innovation.

The Future Farming Charitable Trust is an independent trust that has been set up with seed funding from the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council through its last Long Term Plan.

The trust’s goal is to highlight Hawke’s Bay’s existing and emerging agricultural expertise and create a local hub of knowledge, research and education to ensure the health of the region’s soil and water, communities and farmers into the future.

The Trust will be made up of six to eight voluntary trustees from Hawke’s Bay with a diverse mix of primary sector backgrounds and a cross section of skills.

Hawke’s Bay Regional Councillor Tom Belford and Chairman of the Future Farming Initiative Working Group says he’s delighted the Regional Council has been able to fund getting this exciting new initiative off the ground.
“Serving on the Trust is a great opportunity to add value to an exciting Hawke’s Bay initiative, helping to identify and promote a range of solutions to ensure environmentally sustainable and profitable farming into our region’s future,” says Councillor Belford.

Those interested in applying for one of the trustee positions should call Rural Directions on 06 871 0450 or visit their website for an information pack. Applications close at 5pm Monday 10 June 2019.
